History
On December 1, 1913, brothers Jim and Harrie Woodson opened the doors of the first location of Woodson Lumber Company in Caldwell, Texas. The store sold building materials and hardware to local builders, contractors and the non-commercial retail customer.
As the Caldwell location continued to grow in the community, the Woodson brothers made the decision to broaden their reach and scope of product. They worked hard with a great staff of hard-working local people to expand the business, and opened new locations in Lexington, Bryan and Brenham.
After World War II, the second generation began working in the company. The business continued to grow through the decades, and as the third generation joined the family business, Woodson Lumber opened the Mexia, Groesbeck and Buffalo locations. The addition of the Buffalo yard brings us to our current seven locations, which service much of central Texas.
Our existing locations continue to be renovated, modernized, expanded or rebuilt to better suit our growing and diverse customer needs. In 1999 the new store in Lexington was opened, in 2001 our Custom Door Shop became a reality located behind our administrative offices, in 2005 a new Buffalo store was opened, and in 2012 Groesbeck opened the newest and largest facility in the company. Farmers and ranchers have always been a large part of our business family; in 2008 we added Purina Feed to our Groesbeck location, and in 2009 we added Nutrena Feed in Lexington.
Today, Woodson Lumber continues to be operated by a third generation member of the Woodson family. Ann Woodson Yager Chapman of Bryan is the granddaughter of co-founder Harrie Woodson, and she currently serves as CEO. Her three adult children are actively employed by the Woodson Companies at both the retail and corporate office locations, which brings in the entire fourth generation of the Woodson family to the business.
The Woodson Companies bring together family atmosphere with quality customer service and advanced product knowledge to help with projects. We enjoy developing trusting and long lasting relationships with families both inside and outside the walls of our office. It is because of the relationships that we have built with our friends and families over multiple generations that we celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2013. We have over 800 years of Woodson experience in our 7 locations, and we are looking forward to many more to come.
